The Forest Sofa website was designed to assist Forest stockists with the retailing of the Forest brand of furniture. This website is to act as a resource and selling tool enabling stockists to easily refer to the site for printable photos, dimensions, and information about new sofa designs and leather sofas. Stockists are also able to refer customers directly to our website to allow them to see our product range in full. Please note we do not sell direct to the public. |
| We are pleased to announce a new Contemporary leather and fabric collection will be introduced in Spring of 2008. We have a program in place for the development of several new sofa models to expand and improve on the existing Forest Sofa Range. Further details of these developments will be posted online in the next few months, processional photography is in place and a program of press advertising including the launch of a branded product range will follow. |

SPLIT LEATHERS - Leather undergoes a number of processing creating four main types:Aniline , Semi Aniline, Corrected grain and Nubuck. The top of the hide is by far the most durable, the surface of the hide or 'top grain' has a very tough, ridged and durable fibre structure. The raw hide is too thick for upholstery and it is segmented, the top surface is used to produce quality leathers as supplied by Forest Sofa, the rest of the leather (splits) has a far inferior fibre structure and is susceptible to splitting / tearing. The word split refers to the characteristic of the leather, and this poor material which is far cheaper than top grain, is often used on cheap imports. It is often misconstrued that thicker leather is better, this is however not the case. The average thickness for upholstery is 0.9mm - 1.1mm. Once again the best part of the hide is the top surface even leather 1.6mm thick if taken from below the surface is not going to be the same standard as 0.9 - 1.1mm top grain. |
